MUMBLE MONTHLY MAILER:

just in case you needed one more reason to skip asr

POSTED January 8, 2009 BY jf

this is a cross-post from the KNOW SKATEBOARDING project.

reese

the reese forbes ollie challenge has been postponed.

just talked to reese forbes. after quiksilver pulled out of the show, i guess asr didn’t really want them getting any promo off the ollie challenge. so according to reese, “it’s postponed, and the location is YTBD.”

but all is not lost for everyone who has been training, apparently there are a couple other ollie comps going down. a grind for life one and a dvs daniel castillo ollie challenge in the beer garden. reese is still planning on skating, so i think i’m still going to have to check it out.

speaking of tradeshows, i think crossroads can’t help but be much better than the insane bro-fest that is asr anyway. it’s about time for skateboarding to take care of it’s own destiny again, nice work jamie.

Honestly, one of my favorite things about working at Girl is that we haven’t done ASR in almost 10 years.

proving once again how relevant / necessary asr actually is to real skateboard companies. last year they denied my media credentials because they were, “not admitting web film crews. Only major cable networks.” i think it was my best trip to asr. i went to san diego for three days and didn’t set foot inside the convention center.

In my humble opinion, the whole idea has always been too corporate for skateboarding. And these days it’s just antiquated.
I’ll bet they got a lot of “major cable networks” in there… lol.
