TEN FAVORITES WITH SEAN CLIVER – 9 of 10

July 31, 2009

As a product of 90′s skateboarding, Sean Cliver is responsible for the better part of my personal favorite board graphics. Not only a fine illustrator but a true skate historian, Sean is also behind the most comprehensive and authoritative book on skateboard graphics ever, Disposable, which was released in 2004. Things just got more awesome as his second book, The Disposable Skateboard Bible was just released.

Over the next ten days I’ll be bringing you Sean’s top ten skateboards that he’s designed over the years, along with his thoughts on each of them. Enjoy.

9. 101 Clyde Singleton Clyde ‘n’ Hobbes
While at World Industries I maintained two working lives: one behind the drawing table where I worked on graphics, the other behind the keyboard where I worked on Big Brother skateboard magazine. Rarely did these worlds intersect (well, aside from the absurdist spirit), but I was finally able to take an inspired moment from a Big Brother tour with Clyde Singleton and adapt it to a board graphic of his on 101. We were on the road with Clyde for a week up in the Rocky Mountains, and on no less than three occasions did he wet himself in the middle of the night. It got so bad that by the end of the week everyone was keen to strategically place themselves far away from Clyde in times of slumber. So this remains a dear sentimental favorite of mine.

Check out disposablethebook.com for info on The Disposable Skateboard Bible.

P-ROD COMMERCIAL – EXTENDED VERSION

July 31, 2009

A couple weeks ago I shared the Paul Rodriguez/Ice Cube Nike SB commercial, this week they’ve upped the ante and thrown Kobe Bryant and Koston into the mix…

Visit the mini site for behind the scenes videos and product shots of Paul’s new shoe, the Zoom Air Paul Rodriguez III:

Concrete Skateboarding – Issue 101

Concrete Skateboarding - Issue 101 cover

Coverboy, Chad Dickson, switch ollies a roof gap that is equivalent to about a 14-stair. Pretty impressive for someone that was hit by an SUV only a year ago.

THRASHER

July 31, 2009

michael-worful

I’m in Thrasher this month, and I couldn’t be more stoked. There are two pages of my design and illustration work, including some board graphics I’ve done for Pretty Skateboards. Special thanks to my friend Guy Gray for making it happen.
