CROWNFARMER WEEK 4 – ANDREW POMMIER

POSTED October 19, 2009 BY Bob Kronbauer

If you’ve been reading for the past few weeks you’ve surely seen the return of t-shirt brand, Crownfarmer and know that from now until forever it will be linking up with Club Mumble every week to bring you a t-shirt designed by a member in good standing.

Week 4 is a design by illustrator/painter Andrew Pommier. You might know his work from the bottoms of skateboards, the sides of skateboard wheels, maybe from his Adidas that came out a little while back or the countless art shows and magazines his work has been featured in over the years. Maybe you even have a copy of his book, Things I Don’t Remember? Click HERE to grab one of his tees or continue reading to learn a little more about Andrew and what he does…

What was the first design you ever got paid for?
In the mid 90s I was asked by a pro I knew in Toronto to do a board graphic for Balance Skateboards. In the end the board wasn’t run but the top graphic was covertly turned into a t-shirt graphic. Once I found out that is was produced I was paid $50 for my time.

What was the last design you got paid for?
I did an 80s inspired board graphic for Heroin Skateboards.

What’s your favorite book ever?
That’s an impossible question to answer…but with that said I’ll say “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I read it during a my last year of art school. I was studying in Italy away from all of my regular distractions so it was pretty much just art and reading. The time and place are really the things that are great about the book but it’s still a great read.

What was the last book you bought?
“Kafka on the Shore” by Murakami. His books are so odd and I love the way the stories are structured. A lot of open ended story lines. Once you start reading it’s hard to put down.

If you had to list your top 3 influences, what or who would they be?
1. Brie
2. Creative and challenging art
3. Going somewhere new

What’s the worst thing about your life right now?
Deadlines and procrastination.

What’s the best thing about your life right now?
Waking up and just following my nose.
