The Gulf Islands Secondary School performed in the Exhibition round of the Canadian Improv Games, South Vancouver Island, this past Friday night. They certainly brought a playful intensity as they rocked a frantic Theme event filled with group games and zoom edits, a Character event about a passive/aggressive fire chief with a past, contents under pressure, and a beautiful story event where Merlin’s evil brother’s journal was found in an attic and then returned to him in a finale of fire and magic. Great work! These improvisors are amazing listeners and are on the verge of becoming a chorus of coryphaeuses.
Our next performance is at the Salt Spring Island invitational show on Jan. 8th and then the loving competition starts on Jan. 15th in Victoria.
We are working on a Bouffon style event and hope that it comes to life. We were lucky to have a workshop with Catriona Leger on Thursday and look forward to taking it back to the laboratory in the few short weeks between now and the Kwanzaa-Hanukkah-Christmas break.
GISS IMPROV is now hiring a full-time professional designer to help collage together pictures of our field trips and performances in a way that is aesthetically arresting and shines a light on our enthusiasm and group mind.

Cliché are publishing a big size book about the company’s history, very nicely put together by our friends from the ill-studio. It’s coming out this december, in skateshops. Micro-site here.

The wonderfully creative Irishman that is Phil Evans has posted up more parts from his Super8 skate film The Scrum Tilly Lush, one of my favourite videos of 2009. The first part is Janne Saario in a wet Helsinki filmed over 3 days, the second is Love Eneroth in Stockholm. You can find out more info, see more parts and you can buy the DVD over at www.thescrumtillylush.blogspot.com.
With the first SB Koston ads now showing up in the mags, we felt the timing was perfect to sit down with Eric and talk all things sneakers, including some of the projects Eric has been working on since he joined Nike SB last June. Check out this interview with Eric here.
