Collage at THIS.

March 23, 2010

Our second show at THIS is coming up Friday. It’s a wide range of artists working in collage with way less artists than our opening. Come out, say hello, drink some free beer and the head down to the Monster Children launch happening later that night. We also put up some little bios of the artists www.thislosangeles.com.

// NEW CONTRIBUTOR ART PROJECT!!

March 23, 2010

690_good

We’ve teamed up with Society6 and Club Mumble to curate our second Collection in support of Contributor – an initiative that aims to give skateboards to disadvantaged youth. Through Society6, we (a group which includes Annie Lam , Mike Giles, Bob Kronbauer, Sandro Grison, Andy Jenkins and Justin Cooper ) will be curating 25 artists/collectives from around the world to create original boards that will be sold through Contributor. What makes this project unique is that rather than people buying a finished piece of your artwork, supporters will instead pre-purchase your time to make a board especially for them, so when it arrives it’s an awesome surprise, kind of like a familiar chocolate with a hidden tasty center! Open Call starts today!! click the image to sign up to Society6 and apply…..

Like a Molotov cocktails of souvenirs

Molotov.Skateboards_decks

Remember Molotov skateboards? No, you don’t. Well, it wasn’t based in California, was active from 1990 to 1994 and came up with a few pretty cool artistic statements, such as avant-garde minimalistic graphics, fake pro names taken from the phone book, and its 1991 catalog’s cover bared a sequence with just the beginning and the landing of a trick -brilliant. Also, Molotov counted in its ranks such legends as Jahmal Williams, Mike Graham and even Darren Navarette. All that. See the full retrospective at Memory Screened.

Broadcast Yo Self February Winner

March 17, 2010

Joey Adamczyk is a dude with a nearly impossible-to-pronounce last name that somehow looks completely comfortable doing tricks that are nearly impossible-to-land.  Broadcast Yo Self is the moving-picture catalyst by which Broadcast allegorically opens its doors to the public and allows shredders from around the world the chance to be featured on the website. Each month we will sift through our submissions (to submit, simply send us your YouTube or Vimeo link on this page) and we’ll choose one unlucky brute to partake in the awesomeness that will be known throughout cyber eternity as Broadcast YoSelf. It’s certainly not going to make anybody famous, but we want the 2 or 3 people that check our website each month to enjoy some fresh content. In addition to the dishonor of appearing on thisisabroadcast.com, the winning skater each month will receive a Broadcast T-shirt. You can check out last months weiner here: http://broadcastwheels.com/2010/398/broadcast-yo-self-brian-kubis-january/
