ARMS OUT

January 26, 2011

This lovely lady creates beautiful detailed drawings on coffee stained paper that explore ideas of overcoming peril with fierce determination.

The way she creates these abstract landscapes full of beautiful patterns that draw you in and set you on these wondrous adventures is so inspiring.

Check out Mel Kadel‘s art show in Los Angeles on February 5th. This is an exhibition you won’t want to miss.

Sam Taylor, Mini Ramp Manouevers.

January 24, 2011

A few mates have built this sick mini in their front room just down the road and it’s rad. I went over with Sam yesterday for a session and whilst we were there we filmed a few tricks. It was sick to hang out and everyone learnt some new stuff…Perfect session.

Check this little edit that I put together earlier of some of Sam’s manouevers here.

JOHN FELLOWS

January 21, 2011

I just got another amazing zine in the mail from Denver based designer, John Fellows! He does a zine series called Papercut, which have me so inspired to make more zines.

Check out more of his work here.

Journal Mag Retrospective

January 21, 2011

Back in the late Nineties a few friends of mine started Journal Magazine. For us in Philly this was a big deal, energy was high here and all along the east coast, it was awesome to see it covered by the people who were immersed in our local scene. Sadly, the magazine only lasted three issues, but for us it was a cherished moment in Philly skate history. Rob Brink recently interviewed Rick Valenzuela about the story behind Journal. Much to my surprise, Rick even gave me a shout out at the end, I would’ve posted this anyway, but that little mention made my day… Again, I thank you Rick! Check it out! You can also download issue zero now, and issues one and two will be up soon.

Faesthetic #13! 10 years in the making…

January 17, 2011

I’m super excited to announce that the new issue of Faesthetic dropped this past week. Featuring the contributions of over 40 artists, as well as thoughts on the past 10 and upcoming 10 years from an amazing cast of characters: Jeff Staple, Jason Polan, Tiffany Bozic, Cody Hudson, Roger Gastman & Porous Walker. With cover art by the one and only Mike Giant, and punch out cards from one of my favorite artists; Mark Mothersbaugh.

To celebrate the new issue and 10 years of independent publishing, I’m offering the new issue for only $13. To top that, the available back catalog is only $13 more. That’s 7 issues for only $26. Hit Faesthetic.com for more information.

Another musical brick in the wall with Brian Anderson

January 14, 2011

The impeccably-scored Brian Anderson comments on A Visual Sound five of the tunes on his own video parts, from “Welcome to Hell” to “Yeah, Right!. And, yes, if you ever were wondering, that does include the crazily Muska beats-infused Modus Operandi section…
