Nataly Rukavishnikova

July 31, 2011

Nataly Rukavishnikova is a 19-year old scenographer and student based out of Moscow, Russia. She recently worked on Goethe’s “Faust” set in Moscow School of Dramatic Art.  She is also a dedicated skater and longboarder. Nataly spends her time sketching in the subway and making tiny models out of cardboard, cotton thread and wood which seem to originate from “Alice behind the looking glass” world. She is also flipping down the stairs and cruising around on her skateboard impressively enough to be an advocate of Nike SB in Russia.

‘SALTCRISP’ – The Ramp Dog

July 31, 2011

Saltcrisp the ramp dog: every ramp needs a ramp dog, in between construction of my son Jacob’s micro mini-ramp in our yard, Jacob asked for me to make him a dog, so here’s ‘Saltcrisp’ (Jacob named him!) the ramp dog…

Color Magazine Collector’s Issue 2011 Featuring Allister Lee

July 29, 2011

The new Color Magazine, Collector’s issue (4 standard issues and 2 special editions a year) is in and amongst its many great photos and articles related to, “Collecting”, Allister Lee tops it for me personally with his successful 500 Black Marker Poster.  I had the honor of releasing his poster this past Spring with great results and tons of appreciative fans worldwide.  Color delves a bit deeper into Allister’s workspace in Toronto and his affection for black markers.

You can get one Allister’s 500 marker poster at Equal Dist. while supplies last.

LAUNCH: Community Through Skateboarding

July 28, 2011

Bob Lake‘s friend, Andy Weiss in Ft. Collins, Colorado just started LAUNCH, and we can’t be more thankful for such a positive force in skateboarding.

LAUNCH: Community Through Skateboarding, is a Colorado-based organization devoted to empowering individuals to better themselves and their community through skateboarding. They strive to provide an environment that fosters a culture of creativity and self-expression for skateboarders of all ages.

The Solitary Arts donated a complete Big Red to help raise funds for the upcoming ALL HANDS ON DECK event on August 5, 2011 from 6-11PM. Check-out the list of artists who have donated for this cause, HERE.

Ben Gore, New Stereo Pro

July 26, 2011

Stereo has made the wise decision to turn long time AM, Ben Gore pro. Look for his debut decks in shops soon. Stoked for Ben, his part in the recent MIA video (Josh Stewart) was great. Pick up a copy next time you can, or on Josh’s site.

Sink or Swim Art Exhibition – Tokyo, Japan

July 25, 2011

Last weekend, the non-profit Pangea Seed held it’s 3rd annual art exhibit fundraiser to address one the biggest threats facing the health of world’s oceans today – the rapid mass depletion of sharks. With each minute that passes close to 200 sharks are killed, adding up to an astonishing 80 million deaths each year. The majority of these sharks are killed only for their fins to satisfy an unsustainable appetite for shark fin soup in Asia and other parts of the world. In the cruel practice known as “finning,” the shark is hooked and brought aboard the boat where its fins are then cut off and the still alive but limbless animal is tossed back into the sea to drown.

This year participants included Dave Kinsey, Dan May, Kelly Tunstall, Jim Phillips, Tim Biskup, myself and about 30+ other international artists. Here is a video that the gang over at Pangea Seed put together to document this years exhibition. For more information, check out: www.pangeaseed.com
