ELEMENT YMCA SKATE CAMP COMMERCIALS

January 5, 2011

Last year (2010), Amber and I went to The Element YMCA Skate Camp for the MAKE IT COUNT contest series finals. The kids who had met us there, had each competed and won in their (respective) city, state, and country. Their excitement and energy to be at Camp was through the roof, and so we interviewed everyone about their experience at this skateboard heaven. The commentary was so inspiring that we ended up using these interviews to tell their story at Skate Camp.

Below are these commercials, which are airing on FUEL and The Berrics too.

If you register for Camp before February 1st, you get a free Element board.

SKATE CAMP 2010

August 21, 2010

Every year, at the end of the summer, we bring a select group together for a private session at the Element YMCA Skate Camp in the Sequoia National Forest. And on the last day of this year’s session, we milked as much sunlight out of the day as possible. But when flashlights weren’t enough, we hit the switch, and lit the park up with a few bigger lights…

If you ever get a chance to go to camp, I highly recommend it… It’s one of the most amazing places on earth.

Here are a a couple photos from the last night.

FLATGROUND CASE STUDY, Starring Chad Tim Tim

August 8, 2010

The FLATGROUND CASE STUDY is a short film I made, starring Chad Tim Tim, that played at the Love & Guts art show in Costa Mesa.

The idea was to create a non-linear story that didn’t rely on a musical soundtrack. This way people could watch from any point within the film, for any amount of time. So at the exhibition, the video looped seamlessly throughout opening night.

The film is an experiment in documenting style and technique, which was played back in a gallery setting (and now online) in a way that depicts the similarities of tricks through motion and style.

Most of the video is presented in slow-mo, with the hopes that you can observe the shapes and technique through overlapping imagery… The basics of skateboarding, silhouetted and colored, come alive and create a moving Rorschach test.

It was fun to come into this with a low-budget, creative way of thinking. The production process is simply Chad Tim Tim and myself, a white wall, two cameras, and a few lights, and then we edited it on Final Cut; no green screen or After Effects.

Here’s a link to the Vimeo channel I created, which has the full-length version, and also each individual segment.

LOVE AND GUTS – VIDEO

June 30, 2010

Love & Guts began in 2005 as a skate influenced art show. Five years later, the traveling exhibition made its way to New York, at the Red Bull Space in Soho.

Amber and I were in New York to cover the exhibit, which featured skateboard icons Chad Muska, Don Pendleton, Lance Mountain, Pat Ngoho, Steve Caballero, Steve Olson, and a host of other creatives.

“Eyes Wide Open” was the theme of this show, which paid tribute to the unique characters within skateboarding, who sadly, are no longer with us.

Here’s the short film we created, documenting the installation and theme of the exhibition, and below that are links to the photo series by Amber.

2010 – “The Twenty Worst Songs of the Last Ten Years”

January 19, 2010

Pop-music has always been a defining characteristic of a decade, and the last ten years have been no exception. Each and every generation has had its embarrassing sounds stamped in time, but never before has such shitty music been so diverse, yet so profitable. So as 2010 rolls around, let’s look back and pay homage to our shameful past.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you… “2010: The Twenty Worst Songs of the Last Ten Years”…

KNIFE & SAW

December 16, 2009

Chris Brigham has never been one to corner himself with one title, and he’s proved that again. From photographer, illustrator, designer, and all around hunk, comes his next conquest; furniture design and manufacturing.

Knife & Saw

So if you’re looking for anything from custom furniture to frames, or even a closet, yes a closet, give this a gander.

Knife & Saw

More photos after the jump (including the dream closet).

MAKE IT COUNT, CHAPTER 4 – “EARTH”

December 10, 2009

MAKE IT COUNT, CHAPTER 4 – “EARTH”

“EARTH” is the fourth chapter of MAKE IT COUNT. The conclusion focuses on Element’s continued growth, reach, success, and diversity and is told through the familiar faces of the first three chapters. More so, Lil’ Jon, Pharrell Williams, and a host of artists and musicians (including Mumble members Amber B, Jeremy Fish, and Todd Francis) chime in to further explain the common thread amongst creative individuals.

MAKE IT COUNT – CHAPTER 3 “FIRE”

November 2, 2009
MAKE IT COUNT – CHAPTER 3 “FIRE”

In creating Chapter 3 of 4, “FIRE” I interviewed a myriad of Element riders and alumni, including Bam, Chad Muska, Chad Tim Tim, Darrell Stanton, Donny Barley, Mike V and more. Through their interviews, along with key industry insiders, Element’s defining moments of its early history is explored using historical footage and iconic imagery to tell the story.
