I’m working on a stop-start motion project, and can’t wait to show you guys! Until then, here is a secret squirrel, sneak peak.
xab
just finished up a small video project called LIFE COACH with Jared Eberhardt that premiers this Saturday in LA.
here are a few behind the scenes photos from the final shoot for the piece that happened over a long weekend in and around the Joshua Tree / 29 Palms area. some highlights included getting caught on a closed off highway during a sandstorm outside of Palm Springs, roaming the dessert with cactus needles stuck in my hand and seeing lots of dead fish.
Life Coach is a stream of consciousness collection of film, stop motion and text based elements that were created collaboratively in Los Angeles and Chicago (with stops in Virginia, Wisconsin and Salt Lake City in between) over a period of a few weeks. Using geometric shapes, quiet outdoor scenes and a minimal color palette, we experimented with abstract and sometimes absurdist ways of delving into themes of hope vs. doom, euphoria, boredom, solitude, anxiety, apocalypse and rapture.
I would like to cordially invite you to view my new animation reel JUST posted HERE.

Please tell the creative teenagers in your life that there is a sssecret sesssion awaiting them in sssouthern California this sssummer. It is known as CSSSA or The California State Summer School for the Arts. Students from all over California, the USA, and the world come together for a month of intensive focus in the following disciplines: Animation, Creative Writing, Dance, Film/Video, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts. This experience will change their life. It really will! The application deadline is coming up in February so if you know any high school students that might be psyched on this opportunity please point them to www.csssa.org so they can start getting their application materials together. This will be my 9th summer working at CSSSA and I absolutely love being a part of it because the students come away from the experience with an exploding energy for their craft, a new found confidence in their own voice and an impressive portfolio. It is not a summer camp. The students have to work hard and can even earn college credits. I direct the Animation Dept. at CSSSA and would be happy to answer any questions for you and yours. Please help the teenagers in your life find out about this rare opportunity. It is largely state funded and who knows how much longer it will survive the treacherous California State Budget! There are tremendous scholarships available for California residents so please encourage the CA students you know to apply even if they don’t know if their families could afford to send them. Here are some photos from the animation dept. last year that might give a sense of what it’s like… Goodtimes!
Thanks for helping get the word out!
Looking to update your movie list on Netflix ? Add Beautiful Losers. I did the Cinematography.
A few months ago I curated a Faesthetic show with Scion at their Culver City gallery. Here’s a recap video… I’m really proud of how this turned out.
Also… starting this week, a “Signature ID” I made for Fuel will begin airing on TV! I’m pretty goddamn excited about this too. I hope you dig it!
My friend Mike Manzoori a new website where you can view his lovely portfolio and also watch the classic Sheep Shoes Life of Leisure video!
I had a conversation today about my previous animation work. Had me thinking if I could locate these MTV Australia spots online. It wasn’t a very hard search. I posted them on youtube this afternoon. These were produced by Bitt Animation and VFX in 2006.

In 2005 my friend Jason MacFarlane directed this video and commissioned me to produce the figures for the video.
Thanks to Bob K for the video posting hint.
