WELCOME TO THE CLUB – JUSTIN VAN HOY

June 27, 2011

Club Mumble has been going strong as an online community of creatives since 2007, and now we’re branching out. Recently we reached out to Club Mumble members, and asked them to nominate someone awesome to join our club.

Well, the nominations are in!

Justin Van Hoy is a freelance Art Director and Designer with a pretty awesome collection of clients like The Selby and The Cobrasnake, Stayhigh 149, OBEY, Threadless, Mini Cooper, Juxtapoz, Swindle, Gagosian Gallery,  The Oinkster, RVCA, Converse and more!

Born in Chaleston, South Carolina, Justin now lives in Los Angeles where he runs THIS gallery with Aaron Farley, Jeremy and Claire Weiss and Luis Farfan.

We feel very lucky to have Justin Van Hoy on board and a part of the club, so please welcome him as our newest honorary member of Club Mumble.

Check out some of Justin’s work here.

FILM POR VIDA PRINT EXCHANGE PROGRAM – LONDON SHOW AND BOOK

June 10, 2011

Jai Tanju’s Film Por Vida Print Exchange show rolls into London next week, having previously shown in New Yorks Fuse Gallery in October last year. Loads of talented photographers involved many of whom are mumble members! The show opens Thursday 16th June (7pm – Midnight) at the Wayward Gallery. I know a lot you cant make it here to ‘good old blighty’ so I shall follow this post with images from the show etc.

Along with an impressive instillation of Jai’s ever growing collection of mail he’s received over the years, there will be 26 framed photographs by

Joe Brook, Tobin Yelland, Sam Milianta, Tim Irwin, Dave Schubert, Dan Boulton, Takeshi Abe, B. Fonville, J. Siegel, Jai Tanju, Ken Nagahara, Weston Colton, Brad Westcot, Greg Hunt, Dennis McGrath, Bryce Kanights, Amanda Lopez, Isaac Randozzi, Mark Whiteley, Dave Franklin, Kingsley Ifill, Phil Jackson, Eric Antoine, Fabrizio Biviano, Espen Stokke and Ed Templeton.

WAYWARD GALLERY
47 Mowlen Street
Bethnal Green
London E2 9EH

Exhibition extends through 27th June

And if that wasn’t enough, stepping things up a gear this time, Kingsley Ifill, the Wayward Gallery and Sserpress books have put out a 66 page Print Exchange book for the London show called ‘We sent them to the other side of the world & now they’ve found the way back’, I’ll put something up on here about where to buy them after the show – if theres any left!

What Is A Homeland?

April 18, 2011

In late 2010 I spent time in North East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia with my girlfriend Ruby volunteering within art centres in remote aboriginal communities. After consultation with elders and others we met we decided to produce a book of photographs and quotes we collected from the Yolngu people who openly invited us into their lives.

The aim of the book is to say thanks to those people by helping to raise awareness of the benefits for indigenous Australians living on the land passed on to them by their ancestors, known as homelands. There is currently very little support from Government within Australia.

Please click on the image link to read more information on our cause and potentially contribute to our project.

April 1, 2011

I was this week highly commended for the my entry for the Searle Award for Creativity. The theme was crisis my entry was an ABC book of threatened animals. The 12×12 inch hard back picture book acts as an eye-opener and an educational tool that introduces us to whole host of unique and amazing creatures that are currently is some way threatened. Each animal is listed on the ICUN List of Threatened Species. For more visit www.steverack.com.

January 17, 2011

I’m super excited to announce that the new issue of Faesthetic dropped this past week. Featuring the contributions of over 40 artists, as well as thoughts on the past 10 and upcoming 10 years from an amazing cast of characters: Jeff Staple, Jason Polan, Tiffany Bozic, Cody Hudson, Roger Gastman & Porous Walker. With cover art by the one and only Mike Giant, and punch out cards from one of my favorite artists; Mark Mothersbaugh.

To celebrate the new issue and 10 years of independent publishing, I’m offering the new issue for only $13. To top that, the available back catalog is only $13 more. That’s 7 issues for only $26. Hit Faesthetic.com for more information.

A SENSE OF ADVENTURE

December 19, 2010

There is something so rad about trading zines for fun. Whenever I get a random envelope in the mail, I feel like I’m five years old all over again; completely excited about receiving something in the mail.

Recently, I put out a call on Club Mumble for anyone interested in a friendly zine swap, and received some awesome emails from some interested punters. Above is an amazing zine I got from William Harvey from Bath, England. It is printed on a heavy card stock and looks and feels amazing. Check out Will’s blog for more of his work here, and I’m sure you will be seeing a lot more of this talented young chap.
