Hello Family & Friends,
I have been working around the clock for my SUMMERWINTER exhibition which opens in LA on Friday, July 16th. Everything is coming together beautifully, and I can’t wait to show you all what I have created!
Kirk has been working on a beautiful short film that narrates the story of the art show, and it’s set to a soundtrack composed by Loren Humphrey.
I would also like to thank all the amazing people who have helped in preparation for this exhibition:
Jeremy Mora for his beautiful gallery; POVevolving, Todd Rogers for sound engineering, Matt Tammariello for sound effects, Loren Humphrey for the soundtrack, Luis Ramirez for printing help, Honest Tea and PBR for the drinks, Nylon TV for the coverage, and a very special thank you to Element for all your love and support!
Our goal is to raise $500 for Elemental Awareness, which is an organization that reaches out to under-privileged kids through skateboarding and wilderness skills. I created a limited edition of 10 hand-sewn, hand-screened totes that are packed with goodies from our sponsors, and will be sold to raise money for EA.
Inside each tote is an AB zine from the exhibition, an organic Element T-shirt, and an Element Eden wallet, along with stickers, Honest Tea drinks, and a copy of Nylon… So the first ten people to donate $50 will recieve one of these limited edition, hand made, gift bags.
I will also be launching a special line of ombré dyed scarves, which are grade 50, 100% Cheese cloth that will thread the exhibition together by combining black and white, to make grey.
New ‘zines are hot of the press, and will also be available! (If you’re a self-publisher & zine fan, bring yours to the show and we’ll swap!)
Lastly, check out this interview by fellow Mumbler, Isaac McKay-Randozzi at Juxtapoz!
Thank you, and I hope to see you there!

I am having an exhibition on July 16th at the POVevolving Gallery in LA entitled SUMMERWINTER.
I began thinking about the SUMMERWINTER concept about a year ago. It was a natural seasonal progression after my Autumn inspired show at colette in Paris. I wanted to convey the way that seasons are different in the Northern and Southern hemispheres, and how opposites attract… That feeling that one could not exist without the other, and that things all become one in the end.
For this show, I took a minimalist approach in my work, which was inspired by my husband. I have always been about color, but in this show I kept the pallet strictly to black, white and grey. I also experimented with other textiles and media for this show… Along with my sewn creatures, I created a limited edition Ombré dyed scarf to symbolize black and white becoming one (grey). My husband and I also created a short film that will be shown at the exhibition.
The entire show centers around a single love story between the characters Summer andWinter, who fall in love. Even though they live on opposite sides of the world, they consummate their love, and perform a seasonal dance of love for eternity.

On July 30th Dave from The Worlds Best Ever.com will be making the biggest move he’s made in his entire life, He’s quitting his day job to become his own boss. He’s got little savings, so has decided to pay it forward and sell a bunch of his art pieces that he’s collected over the years to support him on the transition to making a living doing something that he loves, The World’s Best Ever. The sale features art penned by such legends as Steve Powers, Shepard Fairey, SWOON and others and is available for bidding now on Ebay via this link (or click on the image), Auctions all end on Wednesday July 7th (Don’t miss checking them out)!

I am a huge fan of ‘zines; I have collected them from artists all over the world. I think there is something special about a little book that is handmade, and full of ideas and concept that perhaps didn’t fit into any other format or function. You don’t need a publishing contract or commercial funding; it’s completely DIY and open to your own interpretation.
This is my latest Zine titled, Mr Phoebus, which is inspired by Sir Edward Elgar, who affectionately nicknamed his Royal Sunbeam bicycle “Mr Phoebus”. It was on his long rides over the English countryside that Edward Elgar found his inspiration to create new melodies and orchestral tunes.
I love my bike, and especially love the way it can make me feel so free. Instead of only printing up a limited edition of 150, I wanted to share this with everyone… Please click the link for a free PDF download of my newest zine; ‘Mr Phoebus’.
