Become a better you

October 25, 2011

AR4T Gallery is proud to present a vocal and poignant solo show from Los Angeles based artist Corey Smith. Turning his focus from celebrity obsession and obsolete dreams to the unnamed citizen, Smith exposes the soft underbelly of Americana without losing the gloss.

Inspired by get-rich-quick schemes, exercise equipment, absurdity of extreme sports, weight-loss plans, and modern strategies for success and happiness, this collection exhibits Smith’s signature clean and minimalist techniques. “My work is about sharing,” he said last month while preparing the all-new works, which will be showcased all month. “I have a lot of ideas and I need to manifest them as immediately as possible, life is short.”

I Heart Miley Cyrus Shirt

September 27, 2011

One of those weird things that happen.  My friend Phil had asked me a while back to help him do some artwork for an upcoming shirt for Odd Future.   The idea was a I HEART Miley Cyrus shirt, but the heart of course would be two dolphins in the shape of a heart.  Anyhow, the shirt will now be available Fall 2011 at  https://www.oddfuture.com/en/products.

Of mice and Bens: Schroeder’s great attic adventure

September 16, 2011

Ben Schroeder’s Monrovia house is still the stuff of legends. Until recently, the whole last floor was his and, well, he made it his, big time. Weird skateboards of all sizes all over. Paperwork, memorabilia, skatepark plans, shoes in various states of usage, sculpted or carved skatepark models. A true Ali Baba’s cave, from which he could extract virtually dozens of different skateboards from any given corner. Each one being interesting and having a story to tell. So no, isolating only five wasn’t an easy task but eventually, it did happen. After much debate, “the guy who does eggplants like nobody else” unfolded his carcass of locomotivesque proportions to talk about his five picks, among other souvenirs including how he got kicked out of Dogtown in 1991 (he sent them a letter saying they were turning the company into H Street and that they should rename it H-Town or Dog-Street) and how he earned the nickname “Ben10? after perfect 10 runs at some 1986 contest. It’s all on Memory Screened

Cat Rabbit

September 11, 2011

Up until about a year ago if you had ever told me that one day I’d be completely in love with the work of a plush figure artist I would have said ‘You really should stop smoking crack dude, it’s super bad for you.’

But then I met Cat Rabbit and that changed. Check out her site and say hi! She’s real nice. Also she’s in a show this Friday here in Melbourne at Outre gallery if you’re in town.

Fathersons Press – It Never Happened Before

August 22, 2011

Just released a limited zine on FATHERSONS PRESS. “It Never Happened Before” is a collection of found monthly planner entries and notes from my grandfather and images of his pasture and outbuildings I have been taking over the past several years.

All of the Fatherssons releases are the same format and the run is only 20, so if you want one, don’t hesitate.

Dos Does It Better (Kira Roessler, Mike Watt)

August 19, 2011

I’m a supporter of anything that Mike Watt puts together, and so needless to say, I was beyond happy when he told me he was releasing a new Dos album through Clenched Wrench Records. If you don’t know, you should find out. Check the video here.

Interview with Neon Forest

July 13, 2011

I recently did one of those “virtual” online interviews with the nice folks at NEON FOREST GALLERY.  We will also be releasing a limited edition t-shirt that I designed.  Read the interview here.  I expound upon a very significant moment that I had at K-mart.

Also available is a shirt I designed for them. 2 color silk screen, limited run of 24 shirts only.  Buy one here
