Black is Beautiful

March 11, 2010

One of the best things that I have ever received were two stickers from Allister. One was a fancy hot dog in a fur coat and another was a floating dink called Ghost Dick. Three years later are tacked up in front of my desk, lending endless chuckles still. Anyways, both characters were amazing and both were drawn with simple black marker – a medium that seems to be made for Allister.

allisterleeemailer722

For the last few years, Allister has put together a project called Black is Beautiful, a varied series of work that celebrates the theme of black markers and black ink culture. And, guess what? If you’re in the Bay area, you can check out Black is Beautiful in person! I won’t lie, I’m jealous.

Curtis Mayfield.

January 24, 2010

curtismayfield_portraitweb-479x640

The other day I watched New Deal’s ‘Da Deal is Dead’ again for the first time in a good while and it got me so stoked on the magic and vibes that the old videos possessed that it inspired me to pick up the pencil and draw the above.

There were a few Curtis Mayfield songs on the video that to this day whenever I hear them instantly take me right back to the good old days in a second.

Skate videos from the 90’s had some amazing soundtracks.

Jarrod Bryan guest artwork.

January 17, 2010

picture-52

Jarrod Bryan, my friend from across the water designed one of our current boards which I love. A tribute to Jimi Hendrix and one of my favourite songs of his ‘The Wind Cries Mary’. We have an interview with him on the site that you might like to read. He also has a pretty interesting folio of work at www.fullcolorcanvas.com and a blog at fullcolorcanvas.blogspot.com.

Interview at www.scienceskateboards.co.uk/newsite/jarrodbryan.html.
