Well, the nominations are in!

Anna Tolchinskaya is based in Moscow, Russia were she aims to link creative force of artists, photographers, designers, and the commercial world to create interesting art projects. As a freelance writer, she contributes editorial stories to Doski Board Magazine and curated the surf photographers for the exhibition “A Leap Into the Future”. Anna was the former Brand Manager for Oakley in Russia, and recently won the Best Art Review award by the Centre of Contemporary Culture.

Altered Focus: Burma

June 1, 2011

We have all thought about this: our “Top 5″ skate trip destinations. If I would have known that this were even possible, Yangon to Mandalay would be in my top three, for sure. These guys did it and I can’t stop watching. Some serious inspiration.

Tom Schmidt is a writer and photographer.

November 10, 2010

Stopped short by cops on horses during the late afternoon magical hours, the young black man then adjourned, not to somewhere else in LA, but managed to be put in his place once again in a small area by a payphone. After the cops had stopped him 12 hours prior he then went back to lying in the middle of vine street right in front of everyone that walked by him. As I went to the gas station though, I witnessed and took pictures of him totting his comforter across vine street in hollywood while a huge cavalcade of autos waited for him to complete doing. To tell you the truth I wouldn’t want to do that. i’ve slept in a sleeping bag behind some bushes a few times, but I would not want to drag my bedding across vine street right down the middle of the hollywood district and cause about 20 cars to slow down as if you were a red light. I am glad though that he has now chosen the east side of vine street once again, and am looking forward to seeing what new creative nooks and open sidewalks he chooses next in the general neighborhood. I like the rare one time when for a few days he was seen over by the side of the church on la mirada. At least he wasn’t in everyone’s face that head to the few bars in the area.

SKATE CAMP 2010

August 21, 2010

Every year, at the end of the summer, we bring a select group together for a private session at the Element YMCA Skate Camp in the Sequoia National Forest. And on the last day of this year’s session, we milked as much sunlight out of the day as possible. But when flashlights weren’t enough, we hit the switch, and lit the park up with a few bigger lights…

If you ever get a chance to go to camp, I highly recommend it… It’s one of the most amazing places on earth.

Here are a a couple photos from the last night.

Extras from One Way or Another

August 7, 2010

austinvansgirls

During the two weeks we were on the road, I shot 11 rolls of films. Well, 12 in reality but one roll in the half-framer got goofy and double exposed some frames and got stuck on one. THESE are some of the other shots from the road. Thanks to everyone on the trip or involved with it in someway, it was a great time. Pictured (L-R), Phil Toselli, Michael ‘the dagger’ Hsiung, Vans store girls, Greg ‘PNut’ Galinsky.

photography hijacked

May 10, 2010

Staple magazine’s, co-founder and art director: Jack Pam is a man of man talents.  He is also a photographer, slash-writer, slash-film-maker extraordinaire. Jack is about to drop his debut feature titled Photography Hijacked. There is a nifty trailer here. There is a eff-book page there.

Here is some blurbage from the site:

“Photography Hijacked, a documentary film by Jack Pam, is a journey through the processes, techniques and outcomes of 12 unique photographers from Australia and America. The idea that individuality of process is what underwrites and makes possible all interesting artwork is explored with each new artist in the film representing a new way of looking at the contemporary medium of photography.

The film is divided into 8 sections containing 12 photographers each photographer is given their own space and presence in the film to represent what they want to say in their own way. This unique structure employed by the filmmaker gives the power and control of the film to the individual photographers themselves. The audience is given the opportunity to step into the world of the photographer where they explain how and why they make their work. The viewer is taken on a ride from the Hollywood Hills of LA, to the Wheat belt of Western Australia to the streets and lofts of New York and into the Rebel Motorcycle Clubhouses of Australia and beyond. You are invited into these worlds with a photographer as your guide as they journey to capture their subject and explain their work.”

ABC (australian broadcasting commission) screening dates

18th May 2010 (10:00pm) – ABCTV 1 (artscape)

23rd May 2010 (5:00pm) – ABCTV 1 (artscape)

Wrap ya laughing gear into that one kids it is sure to be a doozey.

Here are a few stills I sampled from the trailer…
