AMBER B “BEHIND THE SEAMS”

January 10, 2012

Here is a “Behind The Seams” video that I shot with my wife, Amber B. In it she walks you through the process of creating the stop-motion animation in the Eden video, piece by piece.

Amber and I co-directed the video, which tells the story of Element Eden. The project was a fun break from skate videos, and an opportunity to work together on something creative. I’m really looking forward to see where Amber takes her new found passion for animation and filmmaking.

EDEN: The Story of Element Eden

December 1, 2011

“Eden: The Story of Element Eden” is a short film that captures the story of Element’s women’s apparel brand, it’s family, Advocate program and vision to inspire girls on their own unique paths.  The film itself was co-directed by my handsome husband Kirk Dianda and myself. Over the course of the last two years we documented all the products and personalities behind the brand.  To string the story along, I created a set of handmade stop-motion animations that not only help tell the story of Eden, but also represent the brand’s quirky personality while detailing creativity and fashion.  Original soundtrack by  the Talented Loren Humphry.

“RISE & SHINE” – LA PREMIERE

November 11, 2011

The Nyjah Huston Video ”RISE & SHINE” has officially launched, and is available on iTunes.

Leading up to the release of  the video, we held private premieres at Element, The Berrics, and at Transworld too. So it’s been a long week to say the least, but a ton of fun to work on. Below are a few photos from the premieres.

If you’re in the LA area, and want to check the part out for free, come by Universal City Walk… We’re playing the video on the jumbotron at 7pm! Hope to see you there.

Once upon a time…

November 6, 2011

This is the trailer for “Eden”, a short-film that captures the story of Element’s women’s apparel brand and the family behind it.

I co-directed the film with my husband, Kirk Dianda. Together, we shot and edited the piece over the course of two years, as we documented all the products and personalities behind the brand. To string the story along, I created a set of handmade stop-motion animations, that not only help tell the story of Eden, but also represent the brand’s quirky personality, while detailing creativity and fashion.

Short film launches on December 1st.

“MAKE IT COUNT” FINALS VIDEO – ELEMENT CONTEST SERIES

June 26, 2011

The MAKE IT COUNT contests by Element is an amazing series of grass-root events that finishes at Skate Camp every summer for its finals… The contest winners from each event, from around the world, come together once a year to skate together at Skate Camp. It’s an incredible experience, as you’re immersed within all things skateboarding; creativity, energy, ingenuity, and positivity.

This is the highlight video of the actual contest, which was ridiculous, considering these are un-sponsored kids who are skating at pro-level status. Check back soon, as I’ll be putting together a recap video of the year’s events and personalities.

NYJAH HUSTON

June 13, 2011

A shout out to Nyjah Huston for taking 1st place at Street League (again) over the weekend on his final trick, in the final round.

At 16 years old, Nyjah is an innovator and a force to be reckoned with. I shot this portrait a couple of weeks ago when Nyjah was in town.

ELEMENT YMCA SKATE CAMP COMMERCIALS

January 5, 2011

Last year (2010), Amber and I went to The Element YMCA Skate Camp for the MAKE IT COUNT contest series finals. The kids who had met us there, had each competed and won in their (respective) city, state, and country. Their excitement and energy to be at Camp was through the roof, and so we interviewed everyone about their experience at this skateboard heaven. The commentary was so inspiring that we ended up using these interviews to tell their story at Skate Camp.

Below are these commercials, which are airing on FUEL and The Berrics too.

If you register for Camp before February 1st, you get a free Element board.

QUATTRO DVD DECKS

December 20, 2010

SPECIAL EDITION QUATTRO DVD DECKS By RICKI BEDENBAUGH

Over the past year Ricki has been filming for QUATTRO, which has just been released. To celebrate the launch of the DVD, Ricki and the team made these rad DVD covers from the boards that were skated by Chad Tim Tim, Darrell Stanton and Levi Brown during the filming of their video parts. The team recycled the decks, and then handcrafted them along with Paul Schmitt to create these special edition Quattro DVD cases. Each of the 35 DVD Decks comes with a letter of authenticity, signed and numbered by the rider.

You can win one of these limited edition Quattro DVD cases at Transworld Skateboarding and Element Skateboards.

Watch the making of here.

More behind the scenes photos here.

FLATGROUND CASE STUDY, Starring Chad Tim Tim

August 8, 2010

The FLATGROUND CASE STUDY is a short film I made, starring Chad Tim Tim, that played at the Love & Guts art show in Costa Mesa.

The idea was to create a non-linear story that didn’t rely on a musical soundtrack. This way people could watch from any point within the film, for any amount of time. So at the exhibition, the video looped seamlessly throughout opening night.

The film is an experiment in documenting style and technique, which was played back in a gallery setting (and now online) in a way that depicts the similarities of tricks through motion and style.

Most of the video is presented in slow-mo, with the hopes that you can observe the shapes and technique through overlapping imagery… The basics of skateboarding, silhouetted and colored, come alive and create a moving Rorschach test.

It was fun to come into this with a low-budget, creative way of thinking. The production process is simply Chad Tim Tim and myself, a white wall, two cameras, and a few lights, and then we edited it on Final Cut; no green screen or After Effects.

Here’s a link to the Vimeo channel I created, which has the full-length version, and also each individual segment.
