Vincent Moon X Efterklang “An Island” DVD/EP Release

November 21, 2011

After hearing about this project from Jeff Hamada, I recently hosted a screening of the video An Island, filmed by Vincent Moon about the amazing band Efterklang. This film is certainly an inspiring look at how important sound is to regional cultures. They are now releasing a limited edition DVD/EP designed by Hvass&Hannibal featuring the photos by Antje Taiga Jandrig packaged in a custom-made cover printed by Stumptown Printers in Portland, Oregon.

The DVD is limited to 5000 copies and they are all individually numbered. The cover holds a 35 page booklet with lots of photos along with background info written by Efterklang. When ordering the DVD you get the new EFTERKLANG EP ‘Live at Roskilde Festival 2010? as a bonus! An Island is also available digitally after the Pay-What-You-Want model. Available via www.anisland.cc/home

Surf Re-Evolution

September 7, 2011

If you find yourself in York, Maine this coming weekend, you should hit up the Surf Re-Evolution Festival being put on by Grain Surfboards. It’s going to be a day long celebration of sun, surf, art, music, food and films. I was asked to participate in the art side of things which is curated by Tyler Briggs of Corduroy Boutique. An old barn will be converted into a gallery for the weekend and filled with art inspired by the love of water. Above is one of my small pieces along with the Festival graphic.

In their words:
“Why Surf Re-Evolution?
We think of the boards we build as an emblem of “re-evolution”. To us, that’s the act of reaching back into the legacy of surfboard design, finding an inspiration, and applying new thinking or new materials to jump over the intervening years, decades or millennia to create something surfers can love today.

Because we’re not alone in revering re-evolution, on September 10th, Grain and some friends will be hosting a first-ever celebration of this idea. With Korduroy.TV, we’ve invited some of the most forward-thinkers we could find to join us at Long Sands Beach in York, Maine to see and try out re-evolutionary surfboards, after which we’ll decamp to the farm where our shop is located to share art, films, live music and ideas.”

Definitely looks like a good time. Say “goodbye” to summer with lots of great people, workshops, films, and fun in the sun!

Tell The Teenagers

January 12, 2010

csssa

Please tell the creative teenagers in your life that there is a sssecret sesssion awaiting them in sssouthern California this sssummer.  It is known as CSSSA or The California State Summer School for the Arts.  Students from all over California, the USA, and the world come together for a month of intensive focus in the following disciplines: Animation, Creative Writing, Dance, Film/Video, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts.  This experience will change their life.  It really will!  The application deadline is coming up in February so if you know any high school students that might be psyched on this opportunity please point them to www.csssa.org so they can start getting their application materials together.  This will be my 9th summer working at CSSSA and I absolutely love being a part of it because the students come away from the experience with an exploding energy for their craft, a new found confidence in their own voice and an impressive portfolio.  It is not a summer camp.  The students have to work hard and can even earn college credits.  I direct the Animation Dept. at CSSSA and would be happy to answer any questions for you and yours.  Please help the teenagers in your life find out about this rare opportunity.  It is largely state funded and who knows how much longer it will survive the treacherous California State Budget!  There are tremendous scholarships available for California residents so please encourage the CA students you know to apply even if they don’t know if their families could afford to send them.  Here are some photos from the animation dept. last year that might give a sense of what it’s like… Goodtimes!
Thanks for helping get the word out!

Dear & Yonder Tour

June 30, 2009

BIG NEWS

Two of my favorite people, Tiffany Cambell and Andria Lessler, have just finished an amazing new surf movie.  It’s called  “Dear and Yonder: Daring stories of ladies united by the sea”, and it is on tour right now!  Me and Nat Russel worked together to create the title sequence and I did some other little animated tidbits with other people’s artwork.  I haven’t seen the film yet but the trailer is soooooo beautiful.  Have a look. Check out the tour dates, they might be coming to your town!  It will look incredible on the big screen I do declare..  www.villavillacola.com for more details..flyer-email-version-low-res
