Save a dog’s life: stick your thumb up it’s ass…

Soooooo… I decided to do this thing. Like a “year end wrap-up, best of” thing. Like everyone always does at the end of the year. I think VH1 might do it more than anyone though. They even do it all throughout the entire year.

So yeah, anyway, I scoured all my interviews from 2008 and picked my favorite stories and quotes from them and made a list, post by post, in no particular order. It was gonna be a “top 10″ originally, but then I couldn’t figure out what my favorite was. So its a “Top 10, give or take, in no particular order” list.

Since I haven’t been rushing to post on Club Mumble for shameless self promotion or linking to my own site as much as I should be, Bob K. was like “Hey man, you should put those quotes on Mumble, it’s like, soooooo totally perfect for it.”

And I said, “Really? You don’t think it’s kinda gay?”

And he said something to the effect of, “No.” But in more words than that.

So here it is. The first half of my favorite quotes of ’08, starting with actress Lizzy Caplan. If you think it’s gay, blame Bob. And if you don’t like talk of cocks and penises and poop and angry priests and karate kicking mailboxes and stuff like that, then go to some other blog and read about fixed gears or laugh at pictures of celebrities with Photoshopped jizz on their face for the fifth year in a row.

Masturbating Asians, crotchless jeans, largemouth bass, etc.

From the perspective of a writer, it’s nice to know you can always count on the enjoi guys to give amazing interviews. In my experience, most of the dudes in the Baker crew fall into that category as well.

Interviewing skateboarders, celebrities, or anyone for that matter, is probably harder than most people think, not because interviewing is like rocket science or anything, but because a good interview relies on many variables. It relies heavily on the subject being relaxed and uninhibited and engaging… in addition to the interviewer keeping the subject interested in talking and making them want to be all those things.

Sometimes, no matter what you do or ask, it’s like pulling teeth. The dreaded and abrupt “yes,” “no,” “I don’t know” answers stack up and you’re left with an hour of personality-less tape. Ughhhh. I’ve had many an interview where I couldn’t believe the person I was speaking to really didn’t give a shit how he was going to come off in print, with thousands or even hundreds of thousands people all across the world reading. Like, it’s your interview, dude! How many of these are you going to get in your career? Make it count! Even if you’re kind of shy, I mean, like, maybe it sucks talking about yourself for an hour with some dude like me asking you a million questions or whatever, but seriously, it’s not that bad. Life could be worse. You could be working at McDonalds instead of travelling the world for free and skateboarding. Thank God editing makes things a little more exciting (hopefully) for the reader at times.

Anyway, long story longer, my point is… Jose Rojo gives a lovely interview. Parts one and two of three are here.
